Building safer futures through supporting children and young people.
Our Young People's Outreach Program helps with the wellbeing and recovery of children and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence.
We focus on working with children and young people aged between 5-12 years to identify trauma-related behaviors and work with them to find strategies to address these behaviors.
We focus on building positive, trusting and safe relationships between children and their families. By engaging with children’s interests and creating new experiences, either at home or at school, we work to strengthen these relationships. We support them to create ways to maintain safety and build skills for resilience.
We recognise that children are part of a family and we seek to engage the whole family. For the program to be effective, the parent/s and children need to want to engage and the situation at home needs to be safe.
After working together to build a safe and positive relationship we talk about the children’s experience at home and the ways they stay safe. We look at key areas including confidence and self-esteem, non-violent ways of responding, anti-bullying, coping strategies and respect. Helping them to understand their own strengths and resilience.
We help develop support networks so that they can continue to have access to ongoing support after the program.
